The AGC of Michigan: CommitteesContinuing Education CommitteeThe Continuing Education Committee is committed to promoting continuous learning and professional development within the construction industry. Among the Committee's responsibilities are the support and development of on-going educational and informational seminars, organization of an annual emerging issues conference, development of an annual Michigan Construction Industry Professional Development Day, coordination and promotion of Supervisory Training Program (STP), Supervisor Leadership Program (SLS) and other AGCA educational programs. Constructor Associates CouncilThe Constructor Associate Council works on behalf of AGC's Constructor Associate members to enlist their involvement in a range of Association activities, to identify and engage both the technical and human resources of this member segment, and provide programs and activities designed to serve their needs and the needs of the industry, serves as liaison between the AGC Board of Directors and the National Associate Member Council, working to provide programs and activities that are within the means of the Chapter, and that are consistent with established Chapter Policy.
Group Insurance Oversight Committee The Group insurance and Oversight Committee provides a forum for discussion of subjects of mutual interest and oversees Chapter insurance programs. Higher Education Liaison CommitteeThe Education Committee promotes interest in construction education among educators and contractors and encourages dialog between them. Support AGC Student Chapters, sponsor and administers the Summer Work Program for undergraduate students, conducts the Annual Educators Forum and the Student Contractor Awareness Night (SCAN), oversees and promotes the Endowment Fund and scholarship program, conducts and promotes golf outings to benefit the scholarship program, and coordinates the Brightest & Best Luncheon. Insurance & Bonding Industry Liaison CommitteeThe Insurance & Bonding Industry Liaison Committee studies and recommends appropriate programs. Labor Relations Division (LRD) Executive Committee
The purpose of the AGC/LRD is to provide Labor Relations services to its members who are signatory to a Collective Bargaining Agreement(s), to promote harmony and understanding between building and heavy contractors and the labor organization representing their employees; to promote and encourage the establishment, by lawful and proper activities, of fair, reasonable, and competitive wage rates and working conditions in the building and heavy construction industries, with emphasis on fair working conditions, increased efficiency and more economical costs to owners. The LRD may cooperate with other like organizations in carrying out their objectives, insofar as consistent with these regulations. Outstate Michigan LRD Mike Kettlewell - Committee Chair - Christman Constructors Detroit Region LRD William Gruebnau - Committee Chair - Walbridge Aldinger Legal Advisory CommitteeThe Legal Advisory Committee provides a forum for attorneys to exchange information about construction industry issues, publishes a construction legal newsletter on construction cases prepared by attorney members, conducts projects and present educational programs at Chapter functions and in areas where a legal perspective would be beneficial to the membership. Keranen & Associates, PC Legislative CommitteeThe Legislative Committee monitors and reviews construction-related legislation, helps to craft legislative positions, and help represent the Association before the legislature. Marketing & Public Relations Committee The Marketing/Public Relations Committee's goal is to continually improve the image of Michigan's general contractors and AGC through the development of marketing and public relations programs. The committee is also charged with providing accurate information about the construction industry to design professionals, users and the general public, as well as to serve as a "sounding board" for the Chapter to gain insights from members about how to solve public relations problems. Professional Service & Suppliers CouncilThe Professional Service & Suppliers Council works on behalf of AGC's Professional Service & Suppliers members to enlist their involvement in a range of Association activities, to identify and engage both the technical and human resources of this member segment, and provide programs and activities designed to serve their needs and the needs of the industry, serves as liaison between the AGC Board of Directors and the National Professional Service & Suppliers Council, working to provide programs and activities that are within the means of the Chapter, and that are consistent with established Chapter Policy.
Safety and Health Committee
The Safety and Health Committee functions are to develop programs and services that assist and inform member contractors in the areas of safety, health, environmental compliance, crime prevention and disaster preparedness. Programs developed to serve the membership include the Construction Safety Awareness Program, Chapter Safety Award Program, the MIOSHA / Michigan AGC Alliance, Crime Prevention, and Plan Bulldozer. The Safety & Health Committee serves as liaison with local, state and national agencies, other health, safety, environmental and crime prevention organizations. Kathleen Dobson - Committee Chair - Alberici Constructors - Detroit Region Pete Anderson & Rick Mee - Staff Liaisons - AGC of Michigan Workforce Development CommitteeThe Workforce Development Committee has been charged with the following responsibilities: To foster, promote, develop and implement policies, procedures and programs in such manner as to develop an adequate supply of qualified craft workers in the most expeditious, economical and practical manner, oversee the operations, finances and trustee appointments of the chapter-affiliated, joint apprenticeship and training programs, equal employment opportunities, career promotion and industry, vocational education, and governmental liaisons. The Cornerstone Award for Construction Training Excellence and the Apprentice of the Year Awards are sponsored by the Workforce Development Committee. Keith Smith - Committee Chair - Cunningham Barb Strachan - Staff Liaison - AGC of Michigan Young Constructor CommitteeThe Young Constructor Committee functions to promote networking, philanthropic endeavors, education and an open exchange of ideas on issues facing new- to mid-career construction professionals, while encouraging AGC involvement, introducing new members to the over all association and leadership of the AGC, and helping to structure a strong future for the industry and organization.
